Simply plug any device into Watts Up Pro and the meter instantaneously displays the wattage (power) being used, as well as the cost in dollars and cents.

Watts Up Pro provides lots of information yet it is simple to use. Only 6 values are displayed in the main modes. The other information is available in the detail mode. Clear English wording (not abbreviations) on the LCD is used to describe what is displayed.

Watts Up Pro incorporates sophisticated digital electronics that enable precise and accurate measurements. State-of-the-art digital microprocessor design utilizes high-frequency sampling of both voltage and current measurements for true power.

Power factor is captured so even phase-shifted loads such as motors are accurately measured. Fast, intuitive and easy-to-use, WattsUp Pro quickly and accurately measures any 120V AC appliance.

This WattsUp Pro Monitor will provide the following information: current watts, minimum watts, maximum watts, power factor, cumulative watt hours, average monthly kilowatt hours, tier 2 kilowatt hour threshold (used to calculate secondary kWh rates), elapsed time, cumulative cost, average monthly cost, line volts, minimum volts, maximum volts, current amps, minimum amps, and maximum amps. The PRO model also displays Power cycle. Note that this monitor's watt measure displays "true power", which factors in a device's power factor.

This model will store up to 2,000 data points, which may be downloaded to a PC computer with the supplied PC software via a USB cable. The software allows access to the data table, offers charting and payback analysis, and permits the export of data in a comma-delimited format.

There are two other models to choose from :

  • Watts Up Standard shows data on the screen but does not have memory - you must write results down for your records.
  • Watts Up Pro ES has extended memory to save more data over a longer period of time than the Watts Up Pro. It also has Windows reporting software and communications cable.

All models display this information:

  • Cost - in dollars and cents
  • Average monthly cost
  • Average monthly kWh
  • True power
  • Cumulative power
  • Time
  • RMS voltage and current (amps)
  • Maximum & minimum RMS voltage & current
  • Maximum & minimum watts
  • Power factor
  • Duty cycle

All models are typically in stock and can typically ship the same or next day by method of your choice - UPS, FEDEX, parcel post, etc.

For more information, see the features, specifications and software tabs above.

Note : This product measures energy consumption of plug-in appliances. To also measure the total power consumption of your home, consider purchasing the Watts Up Pro as part of a Total Home Energy Monitor Kit with either the Power Cost Monitor, The Energy Detective or Cent-a-meter.

This Watts Up? meter measures voltage and current thousands of times a second so it has an incredibly fast response time which enables you to "see the surge" of power when appliances are first turned on. The peak value display captures this surge so it is displayed even if it happens too fast to see live. The minimum RMS voltage display shows the line quality and voltage dips. Minimum RMS current and minimum watts can be used to monitor variances in appliances that run continuously.

Watts up? measures true power (including power factor). True power is what utilities charge for, which can be different than a simple voltage and current measurement (this is called "apparent power"). The duty cycle display shows the percent of time a load is above a preset threshold level. For instance, this threshold can be set to 100 watts and with a refrigerator the duty cycle display will show the percent of time that the compressor is running. A high reading may indicate a bad motor or low freon.

  • 1.5% accuracy
  • World-wide compatibility
  • PC interface
  • Software included
  • Real-time logging capable (additional software required)
  • User selectable and automatic interval setting

WattsUp Pro
The PRO model also comes with software and USB interface to a PC.

The software automatically graphs all the data and includes an integrated analysis tool, called the Payback Calculator, which automatically calculates the time required for a new energy efficient appliance to pay for itself. Monthly savings are calculated, and they are compared to the purchase price of the new appliance.

As a data logger, the PRO records all the data into non-volatile (stored even if power is lost) memory. One thousand twenty-three data points are stored, starting with a sampling rate resolution of one second. The sample rate resolution increases over time (sample rate equals total time divided by 1023) so years of usage can be accurately recorded. Use the spreadsheet calculator below to determine what the logging interval will be, based on how long you are logging. For instance, the calculator will tell you that the interval between data will be 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds if you have logged data for 6 weeks.

The PRO also records any power interruptions, which is extremely handy when performing an audit of several devices. In addition, the Pro is capable of real time logging. The communication protocol is fully documented in the help file, including a list of commands required for real-time logging (our software would not be used). The User Forum on this website is a place where users can swap information pertaining to the creation of code which supports real time logging. If you are curious about the software, download it for free in the downloads section. There is also a sample data log which can be loaded into the software so you can get a sense for how easy the software is to use.
